Each month, we take the time to acknowledge the great men that play a large role in our Kin family at the Red Deer Kinsmen Club. Without our members dedication, positive attitudes and compassion, we would not be able to actively serve our community to our fullest potential. In order to show our appreciation, please congratulate Chris Klassen, our more than deserving Kinsmen member of the month. To learn more about what makes Chris such an asset to our team, read on below.
How did you first hear about Kinsmen?
I first heard about Kinsmen through multiple friends who were already members. They kept talking about all the fun stuff they were doing as a group. One of the best decisions I have ever made and haven’t looked back since.
What is your favourite part of the Kinsmen?
My favourite part of Kinsmen is getting together with the guys, many who I consider my closest friends, to do great things for this community while having fun. As we all get older it’s tougher to meet new people and Kinsmen is the perfect place to make new connections, not just from our local club but all surrounding ones as well.
Let’s say that there’s someone out there who is thinking about coming to a meeting but is on the fence. What would you say to persuade them?
The Red Deer Kinsmen Club isn’t just an amazing service club, it’s a camaraderie of brothers who serve the community’s greatest needs. Have you ever just looked around at the things you enjoy using here in Red Deer? Everything has Kinsmen on it; from parks, sporting fields and rinks.. to specialized rooms at the hospital and family services. When you see the logo once, you will see it everywhere. Ask anyone new I have spoken to in the last two years and they will tell you that they can hear the Kinsmen passion in my voice.
The Red Deer Kinsmen Club is made up of men from all walks of life, but how important do you think it is for younger guys to join the club? How could they benefit from becoming a member?
It is important to add new and/or younger members to keep the club fresh and younger members offer a different way of looking at things. There are many benefits for a younger member including, a way for them to get involved in their community and an opportunity to network with a wide variety of experienced members. Kinsmen can help you make friend connections in places that you wouldn’t have had before. Getting out and helping others and meeting with the guys can help a person from getting stuck in a rut and provide an outlet for a desire to help others!
Tell us about one of your favourite moments during your time with the Kinsmen.
I would say my favourite moment so far with the Kinsmen has been leading the addition of more members to our club. Last year as membership director, our club grew over 40%. I am in the same position this year and hope to continue the growth. The club has offered me so much, I hope that each additional member will get as much of out of it as I do.
Is there anything else that you’d like to mention?
We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, September through May. Our first meeting of this upcoming season is September 6th at 6:30pm. Come out, have a cold drink and something to eat and see what we are all about.
Thanks again Chris for all that you do and the enthusiasm that you bring to our community and members. We look forward to seeing your success this coming season and feel very lucky to have you onboard–Congrats!
