When was the last time you visited Bower Kin Place? Although it’s accessible year round, there’s something special about lacing up your skates during the winter months. Whether you plan on rounding up your friends for a weekend hockey or you take your young ones out on the ice for their first skating lesson, outdoor rinks provide an opportunity for everyone to stay active and have fun during a time when most people spend their days indoors.
As part of our obligation to “serve the communities’ greatest need,” the Kinsmen before us wanted to ensure that people had a place to get together, even especially during the winter season. Many of us grew up skating and playing hockey with our friends; now that we’re older, we want to make sure that today’s youth have the same opportunities to access these kinds of recreational activities. Thanks to our annual Dream Home Lottery and our other fundraising events, we’re able to contribute to sports in Red Deer and the surrounding area (if you want to learn more about the importance of sports for kids, check out this blog post).
Between 1985 and 1986, the Red Deer Kinsmen teamed up with the Bower Place Community Association. As a result of their hard work, Bower-Kin Place was created on June 14th, 1986 to encourage people in the neighbourhood to socialize. Now that it’s been around for almost 30 years, the area is still being used by people of all ages. Of course, we have to thank the volunteers who make sure these neighbourhood run smoothly.

We’ll be sharing all kinds of news about the final draw for our Dream Home Lottery, which ends in almost two weeks.
