Dealing with a sick child is never an enjoyable experience, especially when you’re coming from out of town. Besides the fact that you need to make the actual trip to a place you might not be familiar with, most hospitals aren’t designed to accommodate parents and other family members. Because of this, families feel pressured to get their basic needs taken care of while their son or daughter receives medical care. Instead of having panicked families who will worry about where they’ll be able to sleep, there’s a fantastic non-profit right here in Red Deer that’s changing lives: the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Alberta.

The goal of every Ronald McDonald House is to help you feel at home; thanks to the organization’s hard working volunteers, this is possible. Those do end up staying at the House have access to all kinds of features, including a fully accessible kitchen in which families can prepare meals and a fitness centre where they can stay active (visit this link to see a more detailed list of the amenities offered). But families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House also receive another important gift: the peace of mind knowing that they’re taken care of while their child is in the hospital. The house is a short walk from the Red Deer Regional Hospital, meaning that the families can relax knowing that they aren’t far away from their loved ones.

But what if you’re a Red Deer resident and you want to get involved? Don’t worry, you and your team could assist the Ronald McDonald House through their Home for Dinner Program. This opportunity gives up to 8 people the chance to use their cooking skills in order to put a big smile on the families faces! We all know there’s nothing better than coming home to a hot meal and this program makes it possible for those families to feel comfortable in their temporary home. In fact, some of the Kinsmen were able to use their talents to cook up a tasty dinner for the families!
