You may have read in one of our previous blogs, where we announced our new partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Red Deer. As we mentioned in the blog, we’ll be donating the proceeds from our 50/50 draw, which has a potential cash payout to Habitat for Humanity of up to $62,500!
What is the annual Jimmy Carter build? Since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have travelled across the world with Habitat, donating their time and voices annually to build and improve homes of the less fortunate, cycling between the United States one year and another country the next. The foundation has now helped build homes for more than 3,800 families in more than 14 countries. This year, Canada is the chosen country!
The general mission of the Habitat for Humanity chapter in Red Deer is to position themselves in such a way that they can make a greater contribution to assisting low-income families achieve home ownership, which can lead to breaking the cycle of poverty. That’s why they’ve also recently expanded their Red Deer facility an extra 8.000 sq. ft and have pledged to increase their available homes from 3 to 10 annually!
This is due in part to our funding, plus funding from The City Of Lacombe ($480,000), Home Depot ($17,000), DOW Chemical ($15,000), Traine construction ($10,000), NOVA Chemicals ($5,000), ATCO Gas ($3820), ME Global ($2,000), JACOB ($2,000), Kellough Enterprises ($1,000), and Andy Buruma Enterprises ($1,000) and the hard work of more than 224 local volunteers, who have spent in excess of 4,000 hours supporting their builds!
It’s another great example of the Red Deer community coming together to strengthen and improve the lives of our neighbours and friends. If you’d like to find out more about Habitat for Humanity, and how you can get involved, visit their website here!
