There’s something about giving back that’s difficult to express through words. As a service club, we’re always looking for new ways to give back to Red Deer. We’re beyond thankful for the opportunities we’ve been able to be involved with and the ways Albertans have helped us (including our fundraisers and our annual Dream Home Lottery); in order to celebrate our relationship with the community, we’re excited to announce a day that each and every Kin can’t wait for: the National Day of KINdness!
What is the National Day of KINdness?
Now in it’s 4th year, the National Day of KINdness encourages Kinsmen and Kinettes from across the country to get involved with their communities. Whether that means shovelling driveways, helping people with their groceries, giving away coffee and treats, or donating to a local charity, the ways in which Kin can give back are practically limitless. February 20th also happens to be day when Hal Rogers, our founder, met with 11 other men to create the very first Kinsmen Club in Hamilton, Ontario, back in 1920. It’s great to know that in the 96 years since that initial meeting took place, Kin Clubs across Canada have continued Hal’s legacy by “serving the communities greatest need.”
Why You Should Join the Kinsmen
When you become a Kinsmen, you’ll meet a mix of friendly men from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles who are working hard to improve Red Deer one project at a time. Sometimes that means a financial donation; other times it means spending a few hours volunteering our time. We’ve been able to help out numerous charities and non profits, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Family Services of Central Alberta, the Red Deer Library, the Red Deer Food Bank, and many more fantastic places (to see more of our contributions over the years, head over to our Community Projects page). Most recently, we donated $30,000 to the Red Deer Regional Hospital for a brand new neonatal incubator.
And if you’re still not convinced, check out this hilarious video!
How Can You Get Involved?
To become a member and join us for a day full of random acts of KINdness, head over to the Membership page on our site. Once you fill out the form, expect a follow up from us with further instructions. We will be sharing pictures from the National Day of KINdness on our Facebook and Twitter pages, so keep your eyes peeled to see what’s coming up! Also, it would mean the world to us if told your friends, family, and co-workers about this day; together, we can reach even more people in Red Deer and the surrounding area.
