It’s no surprise to any of us that winter in Alberta can get quite cold! With low temperatures, and at times a little too much snow, it can be easy to resort to staying at home wrapped up in a blanket without any prospects of venturing outside.
Despite the deep freeze, there are still many things going on in our community that can help keep you warm and occupied all throughout the cold months!

MiniMAG at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery
MiniMAG is a family-friendly program that runs every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. This drop-in art program allows you to spend time with your little ones (5 and under) all while enjoying some hands-on activities.
Each week offers a new piece of art that you can take on with your kids. We here at the Red Deer Kinsmen are proud to continually support this community initiative. Make sure you check it out this winter!
Family Literacy Day(s) at the Red Deer Public Library
All branches of the Red Deer Public Library will be hosting Read For 15 on Friday, January 26 and Saturday January 27 to help celebrate Family Literacy Day!
Read anything for 15 minutes at the library, and then report it by using #redfor15rdpl on Twitter or Instagram, or by emailing library staff. Getting involved in Family Literacy Day not only helps you and your family come together for an activity, but it also aids in helping Red Deer become Canada’s most “readerly” community! There's even a fun reward at the end.
Free skating at the newly opened Servus Arena
Red Deer’s Servus Arena recently opened on January 13th, 2018 and is now available to the public. Here you can find a skating rink, an indoor walking track and even direct interior connections to the Pidherney Curling Centre next door.
The best part?
Servus will be funding free public skating from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at the brand new indoor rink on the first Thursday of every month during the winter season starting on February 1st. Get your skates ready!
