Celebrate the Redevelopment of The Red Deer Area With the Kinsmen!
If you've been in Red Deer for long enough, there's a good chance that you have at least one fond memory of The Red Deer Arena. Whether you were cheering on your favourite hockey team or you used the facility for a birthday party or other get together, this area, which has been around for more than 60 years, is a vital part of our city. In order to meet the demands of Red Deer's growing population, the city has decided to give us a brand new area which will be completed by mid-2018 and will be used for the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Although our new area will lead to more opportunities for sports, music, and other forms of entertainment, it also means that we'll have to say goodbye to one of our city's most iconic buildings.Read More
Celebrate the National Day of KINdness with the Kinsmen!
There's something about giving back that's difficult to express through words. As a service club, we're always looking for new ways to give back to Red Deer. We're beyond thankful for the opportunities we've been able to be involved with and the ways Albertans have helped us (including our fundraisers and our annual Dream Home Lottery); in order to celebrate our relationship with the community, we're excited to announce a day that each and every Kin can't wait for: the National Day of KINdness!
Kinsmen Supporter Spotlight: Janice Resch of Century 21!
Without our sponsors, the Dream Home Lottery wouldn't be the same.
Although the sponsors we work with come from a variety of backgrounds and industries, there's one core reason why they've partnered with us time and time again: they see the value in improving the lives of Central Albertan through local initiative. They understand the difference that our events have on the community and have made and will continue to make. Whether it's through their hard work and materials, or a financial contribution, each sponsor is an important part of each of our events.
But do you know about these businesses besides their name and location? We're creating a new feature, the Kinsmen Supporter Spotlight. Each month, we'll be speaking with one Kin-affiliated sponsor to learn more about them and their relationship with the Kinsmen. This month's supporter is Janice Resch from Century 21. Janice has had a long history with our club and we're proud to kick off this series by asking her about how much the Kin Clubs and Red Deer mean to her.
Community Spotlight: The Family Services of Central Alberta
2015 is almost over and the holidays are in full force. Although many of us have plans to spending this time with our friends and family over a delicious Christmas feast, the end of December is stressful for many people. Emotions run high, and coupled by the fact that our economy isn't in the best position, we need to spread awareness about the various services available to the public. That's why we're proud to support the Family Services of Central Alberta (also known as F.S.C.A) with their endeavours. As a social group that is always trying to improve Red Deer, we understand how important they are to the community; we're also proud that we get to work with an organization that shares our values.
Join us on the Ice at Bower-Kin Place!
When was the last time you visited Bower Kin Place? Although it's accessible year round, there's something special about lacing up your skates during the winter months. Whether you plan on rounding up your friends for a weekend hockey or you take your young ones out on the ice for their first skating lesson, outdoor rinks provide an opportunity for everyone to stay active and have fun during a time when most people spend their days indoors.
Community Spotlight: Ronald McDonald House Charities Central Alberta
Dealing with a sick child is never an enjoyable experience, especially when you're coming from out of town. Besides the fact that you need to make the actual trip to a place you might not be familiar with, most hospitals aren't designed to accommodate parents and other family members. Because of this, families feel pressured to get their basic needs taken care of while their son or daughter receives medical care. Instead of having panicked families who will worry about where they'll be able to sleep, there's a fantastic non-profit right here in Red Deer that's changing lives: the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Alberta.Read More
Community Spotlight: Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery
What would we do without the Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery? Besides being a place where people young and old can learn about Red Deer, it also teaches those new to Central Alberta about the rich history of our area. A popular attraction year round, the facility has also become a favourite of many children (including some of our youngest future Kinsmen and Kinettes) and young teens, thanks to the exceptional programs that occur.
Because the Museum & Art Gallery are a non-profit and admissions are based on donations, support from the public is a big part of their success. We thought we'd take a moment to speak on their importance and help spread awareness on this vital place in our community.
