Without our sponsors, the Dream Home Lottery wouldn't be the same.

Although the sponsors we work with come from a variety of backgrounds and industries, there's one core reason why they've partnered with us time and time again: they see the value in improving the lives of Central Albertan through local initiative. They understand the difference that our events have on the community and have made and will continue to make. Whether it's through their hard work and materials, or a financial contribution, each sponsor is an important part of each of our events.

But do you know about these businesses besides their name and location? We're creating a new feature, the Kinsmen Supporter Spotlight. Each month, we'll be speaking with one Kin-affiliated sponsor to learn more about them and their relationship with the Kinsmen. This month's supporter is Janice Resch from Century 21. Janice has had a long history with our club and we're proud to kick off this series by asking her about how much the Kin Clubs and Red Deer mean to her.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Red Deer in a family heavily dedicated to giving back to the community. I am currently co-owner of Century 21 Advantage and an active REALTOR on the "Consider it Done Team". Most notably, I donate in my personal condo at Marival Luxury Resort each year for one week to the Kinsmen for their Early Bird Prize package. Family has always been by top priority and I love spending time with my kids and grandkids.

How did you first get involved with the Kinsmen Club?

As far back as I can remember (and that's a long way back) my parents were heavily involved in the Kinsmen & Kinette Clubs. Both clubs have always been a part of my life and I have supported their fundraising efforts by purchasing tickets for several decades. My son, Scott, is an active member of the Kinsmen and the Dream Home Lottery and I help the club out by donating my condo as the early bird prize.

As a longtime supporter of both clubs, why do you think it's important to give back?

I don't think the community can thrive if we don't help each other out. I find working alongside groups like the Kinsmen and Kinettes to be very fulfilling; personally, I think I get more out of contributing to these projects than they do. The money that they raise goes to back to Red Deer in projects that do a lot of good for everyone.

What's your favourite part about living in Red Deer?

There's something about the commitment that most people have towards the community that I appreciate. Although Red Deer is now over 100,000 people, the city still has that small town feeling. We've also got a huge volunteer base and the people who do help out are are willing to give wherever you go.

Besides the Kinsmen and Kinettes, are you involved with any other organizations?

I also donate to Adopt a Family, the Red Deer Food Bank, and the Red Deer Christmas Bureau. Due of the nature of my job and the hours that I work, my contributions come in the form of donations rather than time spent volunteering. I love helping out any way I can; I'll support anyone out there who needs a hand.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

I would like to see more people supporting the club by buying tickets. I don't think the public understands that the house and the prizes associated with the Dream Home Lottery is paid for by the Kinsmen and every cent that's earned is put to good use by funding a variety of projects in the community. Also, I want to give a big thank you to Marival Residences Luxury Resort. I donate my condo for the week as part of the Dream Home Lottery, but they are the ones that provide the inclusive package. I'm glad that the company sees the value in being involved with the lottery to help get their name out there. Practically everyone who has won the prize has gone back because they had such a fantastic experience.
