For years, the Red Deer Food Bank has been instrumental in making sure families don't have to worry about feeding themselves or their loved ones. And although they've been successful, like many non-profits, they still need your help. While they do receive some assistance from groups like the Kinsmen Club, most of their contributions come from everyday people who give what they can.
They've had such a large impact on the community and are always doing great things, so we wanted to make sure they get the attention that they deserve.
The truth of the matter is that we all have something extra to give. It could be some non-perishable foods, a few extra dollars or even an afternoon of your time that could be used for volunteering. All of these things go a long way in making sure the Food Bank can operate without a hitch. The Food Bank also acts as a distribution centre for the 18 Food Banks in Central Alberta; all together, they cover over 20,000 sq km!
By hosting a variety of different events, their staff and the volunteers have done a fantastic job at collecting food and raising awareness about the need to contribute to the community. From barbecues to breakfasts during celebrations like Westerner Days, their hard work has definitely paid off!
The best part about volunteering, besides the fact your actions are directly helping those in need, is the variety of roles you can get involved with. (visit this link to find out all of the available opportunities) Whether you'd prefer sorting or helping out with their administrative needs, there's always a place where you can help. In fact, even the Kinsmen have been known to donate a few man hours!
The next time you see one of the Food Bank's staff members or a volunteer, make sure you give them a big thank you giving their time to help out a larger cause.
