Kinsmen Supporter Spotlight: Janice Resch of Century 21!
Without our sponsors, the Dream Home Lottery wouldn't be the same.
Although the sponsors we work with come from a variety of backgrounds and industries, there's one core reason why they've partnered with us time and time again: they see the value in improving the lives of Central Albertan through local initiative. They understand the difference that our events have on the community and have made and will continue to make. Whether it's through their hard work and materials, or a financial contribution, each sponsor is an important part of each of our events.
But do you know about these businesses besides their name and location? We're creating a new feature, the Kinsmen Supporter Spotlight. Each month, we'll be speaking with one Kin-affiliated sponsor to learn more about them and their relationship with the Kinsmen. This month's supporter is Janice Resch from Century 21. Janice has had a long history with our club and we're proud to kick off this series by asking her about how much the Kin Clubs and Red Deer mean to her.
Looking Back at This Year's Dream Home Lottery!
2015 is coming to a close, which means we're almost ready to announce the winners of our Dream Home Lottery.
As Kinsmen, we're always looking for opportunities to give back to our community. Because of your support, we've been able to contribute to many organizations in Red Deer. From the local Food Bank and the Family Services of Central Alberta, to the Treehouse Youth Theatre and the Red Deer Regional Hospital, we've been able to keep the promise outlined by the Kinsmen before us by continuing to help those in need. Thanks to the Dream Home Lottery, we can raise the funds necessary to assist these organizations. But we can only keep this event going with your support. If you want to work with us to improve Red Deer and the surrounding area, all you have to do is buy a ticket to our annual event.
Community Spotlight: The Family Services of Central Alberta
2015 is almost over and the holidays are in full force. Although many of us have plans to spending this time with our friends and family over a delicious Christmas feast, the end of December is stressful for many people. Emotions run high, and coupled by the fact that our economy isn't in the best position, we need to spread awareness about the various services available to the public. That's why we're proud to support the Family Services of Central Alberta (also known as F.S.C.A) with their endeavours. As a social group that is always trying to improve Red Deer, we understand how important they are to the community; we're also proud that we get to work with an organization that shares our values.
Join us on the Ice at Bower-Kin Place!
When was the last time you visited Bower Kin Place? Although it's accessible year round, there's something special about lacing up your skates during the winter months. Whether you plan on rounding up your friends for a weekend hockey or you take your young ones out on the ice for their first skating lesson, outdoor rinks provide an opportunity for everyone to stay active and have fun during a time when most people spend their days indoors.
Take a Tour Through This Year's Dream Home!
Happy December everyone! The Dream Home Lottery is just over three weeks away from being complete and we can't wait to announce all of the winners! These past few months have been busy for everyone, but we want to say thank you to this year's home builder, Larkaun Homes, and all of the companies and tradesmen who donated their time and resources into making this home a success (to see a list of this year's sponsors, visit this link). We also want to say thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket this year; you continued support to our annual event makes us proud to be Kinsmen. If you have yet to see the Dream Home, we're confident that these pictures will make you want to visit the home!
Volunteering with the Kinettes at Breakfast with Santa!
Christmas came early this year in Red Deer! What better way to celebrate 2015 and the upcoming holidays than with your friends and family? Volunteering is one of the most important parts about our club and we're always looking for ways that we can give back to our community. From helping the Red Deer Food Bank by packing, stacking and sorting boxes to contributing to the Red Deer Action Group Society, we're working to make Red Deer better one project at a time!
Member of the Month: Nabil Abu-ulba
Over the years, the Kinsmen have gained a reputation for providing assistance to Red Deer and the surrounding community as well as being a great opportunity for men to socialize and make lifelong friendships.
But who make up the Kinsmen? What are they like on a personal level? To answer these questions, we've created a new series called Member of the Month. Each month, we'll speak with one of the Kin to learn more about them and to highlight their accomplishments in relation to the Kinsmen's efforts.
This month, we're speaking with Nabil Abu-ulba, this year's Club President. During his time with the club, he's experienced many memorable moments and has shared us some of those stories today.
Volunteering at the Red Deer Food Bank!
With Christmas right around the corner, food banks are about to experience an increase of people that require assistance. Alberta has always been known as a province with abundant resources, but because of the recent economic developments, more people are beginning to rely on food banks and similar support groups in order to supplement their needs. We need to work together to ensure that no one will have to worry about how they'll feed themselves and their families; one way that the Kinsmen have been able to help is by volunteering at the Red Deer Food Bank. We've spoken about how important they are to Red Deer before, but we recently visited their facility to give them a hand.
Teaming up with the Red Deer Action Group Society!
As a club that is built on the motto of "serving the communities greatest need," part of the Kinsmen's duty is to assist each and every person in Red Deer and the surrounding area. We do this through volunteering and financial contributions and we've been able to meet and make friends with people from all kinds of backgrounds. One of those groups we've been able to help out is the Red Deer Action Group Society. We've been a longtime supporter and we're proud to be recognized as a major contributor.
Following Up with the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery!
Last month, we told you a bit about the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery and how their services are an important part of Red Deer and Central Alberta's history (if you missed that post, read it here before proceeding). Besides organizing a multitude of programs and events, the nonprofit has been able to showcase the talents of many artists and creatives. In order to help the Museum + Art Gallery gain a better insight into their members, the Kinsmen donated the funds required to purchase SUMAC, a new program that helps nonprofits with their duties.
Now that the Museum + Art Gallery has been able to use the new software, we thought we'd follow up with them to see how SUMAC is making their job easier and ask them about their current exhibits.
